Small and mid-size firms make up the majority of architectural practice in California, yet many have not participated in internships or mentorship programs. Limited time, resources, and uncertainty around how to structure meaningful experiences often stand in the way. At the same time, students and emerging professionals, particularly from community colleges, rural areas, and underrepresented backgrounds, continue to face barriers to accessing the profession.
This conversation will focus on understanding what prevents firms from engaging, and what would make participation realistic and worthwhile. We’ll explore how flexible models like capX (California Architectural Practice Experience) can reduce barriers, support firm capacity, and create meaningful entry points into the profession and gain insight into what resources, tools and approaches are needed to support firms where they are, while strengthening pathways for the next generation of architects.
Join us for a conversation exploring the experiences, challenges, and perspectives centered on workforce readiness.
