From AIA Central Valley
Join hosts Elizabeth Hawks McBride, AIA, Mark Roddy, AIA, and Sugra Panvelwala, AIA for another edition of Architecture Matters. Our evening of discussion will be centered around the concept of Prefab and Craft in Architecture.
For decades, the architectural world has viewed prefabrication and craftsmanship as opposing forces: one representing the standardizing, repetitive efficiency of the assembly line, and the other embodying the unique and singular response to a design question. However, as we enter a new era of digital fabrication and sustainable necessity, these two worlds are no longer parallel—they are colliding.
As the architectural landscape continues to incorporate higher efficiency and tighter timelines, the friction between industrial systems and craft has never been more relevant. Is the factory-built module a threat to the soul of architecture, or is it the ultimate canvas for a new kind of craftsmanship?
We will explore these questions and more in our next Architecture Matters. We will have short presentations by Mark Mennucci (Regional Operations Manager, FLINT) and Mariia Gryshko (Student, CSUS) followed by an open discussion led by Elizabeth Hawks McBride, AIA.
Tickets are $20 for AIA Members, $25 for Non-members, and $10 for students.
